Grice Captures Individual Crown at Indian Bayou Classic

Destin, FL – On the second hole of a sudden death playoff, Columbus State senior Justin Grice clinched the individual title of the Indian Bayou Classic with a birdie on hole two over Nick Brothers of Saint Leo. 

Grice birded seven of his last eight holes including both of the playoff holes. As a team, the 13th ranked Cougars finished in fifth place with a two-round score of 595. The tournament was hosted by North Alabama and was held at the Indian Bayou Golf Club in Destin, FL.

North Alabama (576) won the tournament by seven strokes over Saint Leo. Shorter (593) and Delta State (593) finished the event in a tie for third place.

Grice shot a four-under par 140 after 36-holes as he posted his lowest round of his career, a four-under 68. With the victory, the South Africa native captured his first tournament title and his first top-five finish in his career.

All-American Rourke Van der Spuy also performed well in the second day of action at the Indian Bayou. Van der Spuy posted a one-under par 71 to finish the tournament in a tie for 14th place with a two-day score of 147 which was three-over par.

Stephen Swanepoel and Steven Paine also shot very respectable scores on Tuesday afternoon as they both fired rounds of three-over 75. Swanepoel posted a nine-over 153 after two days of action while Paine shot an 11-over 155.

Under rough conditions, freshman Jacob Tickal wrapped up his first collegiate tournament shooting an 81 for a two day score of 165.
