Stephen WilliamsAUGUSTA, Ga. – Following a stellar performance over the weekend, Columbus State University baseball player
Caleb Kutsche was named the Peach Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday.
Â
Kutsche is the first Cougar to win the league's Pitcher of the Week honor since
Trey Watson did so in February of 2014.
Â
The junior right-hander twirled his first career complete game on Friday night in a 7-1 CSU victory at Young Harris. The victory was the first of three for the Cougars, as Columbus State swept its opening conference series of the season.
Â
Kutsche went the distance for the Cougars, giving up his only run in the third inning before shutting it down the rest of the way. Young Harris managed only five hits in the game and the junior fanned seven batters.
Â
The Marietta, Ga. native faced the minimum in five of the nine innings and needed just 82 pitches (63 strikes) to earn his first victory of the year.
Â
Through three starts, Kutsche has allowed just four earned runs in 21 innings and ranks sixth in the conference with a 1.71 earned run average.
Â
Kutsche and the Cougars have a busy week ahead with five games on the schedule, starting with a non-conference contest against Stillman on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Burger King Stadium at Ragsdale Field.
