COLUMBUS - Columbus State University head softball coach
Brad Huskisson has announced the hiring of
Lacey Middlebrooks as the newest member of his staff.
Â
Middlebrooks will serve as an assistant coach, with primary responsibilities surrounding the Lady Cougar pitching staff.
Â
"After a thorough search, I believe we have found the right coach in Lacey," Huskisson said. "She brings experience as a high-level player, coaching experience and a new level of energy for not only our pitchers, but for the entire team as well.
Â
"I can't wait for her to get started working with our team."
Â
A former collegiate standout at the University of Tulsa, Middlebrooks joins the Lady Cougars after two seasons on staff at Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Okla.
Â
The Riverhawks posted a 32-23 record in 2016 and Middlebrooks helped senior pitcher Kayce Wooldridge become just the third All-Region selection in the program's history.
Â
"I'm so excited to join the CSU family and start working with Coach Huskisson and the team," Middlebrooks said. "I look forward to competing and continuing the tradition of success in the softball program and at Columbus State University."
Â
Prior to her work at Northeastern State, Middlebrooks spent the 2014 season as the pitching coach at the University of Buffalo. Her lone year at UB saw the program set its all-time high for victories with 30.
Â
Middlebrooks wrapped up an outstanding playing career in 2013. After starting her career at the University of Minnesota, she played three seasons at Tulsa where she finished in the top 10 in career wins, saves, complete games, shutouts and innings pitched.
Â
Over her four-year career, she totaled 60 wins and more than 500 innings in the circle. She was also a standout at the plate, hitting .296 with 13 home runs and 76 RBIs for the Golden Hurricane.
Â
Middlebrooks was a two-time NFCA All-Midwest Region selection and earned Conference USA co-Pitcher of the Year honors as a junior.
Â
Originally from Texas, Middlebrooks graduated with her Bachelor of Arts degree in communication from Tulsa in 2013 and Master of Science in health and kinesiology from Northeastern State in 2016.
