Big Blasts Key Cougar Sweep

Freshman third baseman Cameron Griffin tagged a three-run homer to break open a close game in the nightcap of the Cougars' doubleheader sweep of Indianapolis at Ragsdale Field on a sunny Saturday afternoon.

Columbus State utilized three solo homers to post a 3-2 victory in the opener. The Cougars slammed 14 hits in the nightcap en route to a 14-6 win.

The visitors from Indianapolis are now 2-2 while the Cougars' season record improves to 8-2.

Wes Adkins went deep in the fourth inning of game one. Jason Rogers and Ryan Lewis belted homers in the sixth inning to give the Cougars a little breathing room and a 3-1 lead. Indianapolis managed one run in the ninth, but could get no closer.

The Cougars led 3-1 after five innings of game two. The Greyhounds tied it up in the top of the sixth, chasing starter Chris Snipes. In the bottom of the sixth, CSU sent 16 batters to the plate, scoring 11 runs on 7 hits and taking a 14-3 lead.

Griffin's blast came when the Cougars had taken a 7-3 lead and put the game out of reach.

Griffin and Lewis were both three-for-four. Griffin had three RBI and Lewis two.

The Cougars travel to Montgomery to face Auburn-Montgomery on Tuesday at 4 PM.
