Cougars Post Pair of Come-from-Behind Wins
Columbus, Ga. -- The Columbus State University Cougars posted a pair of come-from-behind wins over defending national champion Lynn University from Boca Raton, Florida at Ragsdale Field on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars won game one 5-2 in 12 innings and took the nightcap 3-2 in eight innings.
Logan Dollar delivered the big blow in game one, breaking an extra-inning tie. The Cougars notched a 5-2 win in 12 innings when Dollar blasted an Evan Ellison pitch over the wall in left. In game two, the Cougars were within one strike of defeat four times before capturing a 3-2 win in the eighth inning.
The Knights took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh and final inning. Starter Thomas Kahnle promptly got the first two batters before the bottom fell out.Kahnle got two strikes on Jake Lepchitz before walking him and two on Alex Montes before Montes singled. Ryan Lewis also got two strikes on him before singling to load the bases. Slugger Jason Rogers strode to the plate with the bases loaded. Kahnle also got two strikes on Rogers before he lined a single to left, driving in the tying runs.Kahnle gave way to Sam Jones after Rogers' hit. Jones got Wes Adkins to fly out, ending the inning.
Jones walked Dollar to open the eighth. Merit Hicks laid down a bunt but Jones couldn't nail Dollar at second and both runners were safe. Eric Skinner bunted down the line at third and Jones threw wildly to first, allowing Dollar to race home with the winning run.
Wade Dudley improved his season record to 3-0, picking up wins in both games on Saturday. Dudley has earned three wins in four days, beginning with a victory against Auburn-Montgomery on Thursday and continuing with the two against Lynn.
The losses drop Lynn's record to 7-7-1. After a 1-2 start, the torrid Cougars have now won 11 straight and are 12-2.
The series concludes Sunday afternoon with a single game at noon.
