Jason Rogers Signs with Milwaukee Brewers

Columbus - Columbus State University first baseman Jason Rogers has signed with the Milwaukee Brewers.

Drafted in the 32nd round, Rogers is off to a fast start with Arizona Rookie League affiliate of the Brewers.  Through his first eight professional games, the Riverdale native has hit .370 (10-for-27) with two doubles, a triple, seven runs scored and drove in five runs.  He has also walked five times and hit by a pitch three times, giving him a .500 on-base percentage.

"We are proud of what Jason Rogers has accomplished in his one year at Columbus State University", said head coach Greg Appleton.  "We are hopeful for his success in professional baseball.  We will miss, but we know he is moving on to better things."

Rogers had one of the best single-season campaigns ever at Columbus State University that saw him tie the CSU and Peach Belt Conference record for homeruns with 26.  He also set three school records including extra-base hits (46), slugging percentage (.869) and total bases (193).  Rogers was also named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the year, a Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches Association First Team All-American and a Daktronics Third Team All-American this past season.

The Cougars went 44-12 overall and won the Peach Belt Conference Tournament.  They advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time in the past nine seasons.
