Moore Announces First Group of Signees for Cougar Basketball

Columbus, Ga. -- Just over a month after becoming the men's basketball coach at Columbus State University, Robert Moore is assembling the building blocks for hte renewal of the Cougar program. Moore has announced his first three signees for the 2010-11 season, all of which are guards.

It is no accident that Moore has made the first trio of recruits to the program players at the guard position who can shoot and run, as that is the style which Moore intends to showcase in his inaugural season at the helm of the Cougar program.

Joining the program are junior college transfer Jarmarquis Steverson of Manchester, Georgia, and Chattahoochee Valley Community College and high school guards Andrew Houts (Dade County HS, Trenton, Ga.) and Dimitri Davis (Tuscaloosa County, Ala., HS).

Steverson, a 6'0, 160-pound point guard, averaged 11.6 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals last season for Richard Mahone at CVCC. He was a 42 percent shooter from three-point range and a 72 percent free-throw shooter and had a season-best of 31 points in a game last season.

Houts, whose sister Ashley plays for Andy Landers and the University of Georgia women's team, put up impressive numbers at Dade County. He averaged 27 points per game, but also averaged 4.9 assists and 3.7 steals per contest, as well. He was a 42 percent shooter from three-point range and shot a phenomenal 92 percent at the free-throw line.

Davis, a versatile 6'3 performer, played high school ball for Columbus native Curtis Weeks at TCHS. He earned 2nd Team All-State honors after averaging 20.3 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 3.8 assist per game last season. He also shot 42 percent from three-point range.

"We're building a foundation for the future and these three guys will definitely help us do that," said Moore. "We have some talented guards returning and with these new guys coming in, it immediately makes us competitive at the guard positions."

"Now we are in the process of plugging in some post players who can go and get the ball for us," he added.

Moore, a former Cougar assistant, took over the CSU program on April 9.
