Swanepoel Fires 66 (-6) in Opening Round at Indian Bayou Collegiate Classic

Destin, FL -  Columbus State's Stephen Swanepoel blitzed the 7079 yard Indian Bayou Golf Club layout with an opening round 66 (-6) to lead by two shots over Shorter's Arvid Bengtsson (68) at the Indian Bayou Collegiate Classic hosted by the University of North Alabama.  CSU shot 297 (+9) as a team and trail host UNA 285 (-3) by 12 shots.  Valdosta State is in second place at 290 and fellow Peach Belt foe Clayton State is third at 295.  UNA's Jake Greer and Brett Munson shot 69s and two other players shot 70.  A total of eight players broke par under perfect scoring conditions from the panhandle of Florida.

The Cougars got a 74 from Michael Hicks, but the rest of the five-men team struggled on Monday.  Columbus resident Michael Lee opened with a 78 to go along with 79s from Jeremy Britt and Steven Paine.

Centenary College and Shorter both are tied for fourth at 296.  CSU is sixth at 297, followed by Arkansas Tech (299), West Florida (301), Northeastern St. (OK) 302, and Birmingham Southern (304).  UNA's "B" team is in 11th place at 306, Lincoln University (308), Delta State (310), Harding & Henderson State (312), Montevallo (314), Lambuth University (316), and Faulkner University (318) round out the 18-team field.

Tomorrow's final round gets underway for the Cougars at 11:20 EST.
