Cougar Linksters Finish Tied for Seventh at Rollins College Invitational
Ocoee, FL - Columbus State finished off yesterday's suspended second round with a 292 (+4) on Tuesday morning and closed with a final round even-par 288 to finish tied for seventh at the Rollins College Invitational. Nova Southeastern led wire-to-wire and finished at 845 (-19), three shots ahead of St. Edward's (282-281-285). Nova paced the 16-team field behind a 17-under par 271 in the opening round on Monday. The Sharks finished the second round at 290 and closed with a final round 284. Barry and Lynn tied for third at 850. Lynn's Patricio Salem won the individual title with a second hole playoff win over St. Edward's Collin Mayer. Both players blitzed the par 72, 7095 yard Forest Lake Golf Club tract with a three-round total of 205 (-11). Salem turned in rounds of 71-67-67, while Mayer shot rounds of 64-68-73.
Host Rollins finished fifth at 8-under par 856 (283-283-290). Florida Southern placed sixth at 865, while CSU and Valdosta State tied for seventh at 869.
CSU's Stephen Swanepoel finished in a tie for 13th at 214 (69-73-72), his third top 20 finish of the fall season. Steven Paine closed with a 2-under par 70 and finished tied for 20th at even-par 216 (73-73-70). Jeremy Britt stumbled a bit with a final round 75, but still turned in a solid performance at 2-over 218 (71-72-75) and finished tied for 30th. Michael Hicks improved from yesterday's first round 76 with a second round 74 and closed with a 1-under 71 to finish tied for 37th at 221. Justin Grice, making his CSU debut at the Rollins event, shot 76 in both the second and final round and finished tied for 64th at 230 (78-76-76).
CSU returns to action next February with Catawba's Outback Steakhouse Intercollegiate at the Hombre Golf Club in Panama City Beach, FL.
