Cougar Linksters Stumble on Back Nine at Outback Steakhouse Intercollegiate

Panama City Beach, FL - The Columbus State men's golf team opened the 2010 spring season with an opening round 309 (+21) and are in seventh place at the Outback Steakhouse Intercollegiate, an event hosted by Catawba College.  Peach Belt newcomer Flagler College posted an impressive first round 3-under par 285 under breezy, cool conditions and lead by 15 shots over a trio of teams (North Greenville, Georgia Southwestern, and Newberry).  The 36-hole event is being contested at the Hombre Golf Club, a second stage PGA Q School qualifying site this past November.

Flagler's Drew Pressentin grabbed the clubhouse lead with a 4-under par 68 to lead by two shots over GSW's Craig Gibson (70).  CSU's Stephen Swanepoel shot a 73 (35-38) and is tied for 10th place.

CSU really struggled as a team on the inward nine.  The Cougars turned at (+5), but stumbled to a back nine (+16) with three of the five players failing to break 40 on the closing nine holes.

CSU mid-year transfer Ben Kishigian shot a respectable 76 (39-37) and is tied for 20th.  Junior Michael Hicks carded a 79 (39-40), Justin Grice checked in at 81 (37-44), and sophomore Steven Paine signed for an 86 (38-48).

Final round action is set to begin at 9 a.m. tomorrow at the Hombre Golf Club.
