Cougar Struggles Continue at Matlock Collegiate with 11th Place Finish
Lakeland, Fla. -- Columbus State's struggles
continued on Tuesday at the Matlock Collegiate Classic hosted by
Florida Southern College. The Cougars improved slightly but still
finished 11th in the 15-team field after Tuesday's round of 300
(+12). Georgia College & State University took the team
title after a stellar round of 284 on Tuesday gave the Bobcats a
total of 863 and nipped Florida Southern by one stroke.
The Cougars could never quite get anything going in any of the
three rounds. Stephen Swanepoel and Steven Paine each carded rounds
of 76 on Tuesday, while Justin Grice fired a 75 and Michael Hicks a
solid 73. Ben Kishigian struggled with a round of 82. Swanepoel
tied for 27th at 225, while Paine (226) tied for 36th, Grice (230)
and Hicks (230) tied for 46th, and Kishigian (241) tied for
71st.
GCSU's Joe Young claimed the individual title by posting and
even-par round of 72 (210) on Tuesday. He defeated J.D. Guiney of
Rollins (211) by one shot as Guiney finished with a round of
69 to make a move. West Florida's Blake Olsen (212) was third,
FSC's Jude Eustaquio (213) fourth, and Barry's Victor Billskoog and
FSC's Matt Stauch tied for fifth (214).
CSU will return to action on March 5-7 at the South Florida
Invitational in Dade City, Fla.
