Cougars Finish Off Suspended First Round at 297 (+9), Shoot 292 in Round Two at Lake Jovita


Dade City, Fla.  --  The Columbus State men's golf team finished off yesterday's suspended round this morning with a 297 (+9) and followed that up with a second round 292 (+4) and are in 13th place in the 23-team South Florida Invitational held at Lake Jovita Golf Club (Par 72, 7153 yards).  Florida Southern, the other Division II team in the field, scorched round two with a 7-under par 281 and lead by five shots over Middle Tennesse State after two rounds.  The Mocs stand at 569 (-7), followed by MTSU at 574 (-2), and North Florida, South Alabama, and Xavier are in third place at 575.  Host USF is in 11th place at 584 (291-293).

Florida Southern's Matt Stauch is the clubhouse leader after another torrid day around Lake Jovita.  The senior made seven birdies and 11 pars for a second round 65 (-7) and is 11-under par for the tournament.

CSU wrapped up its first round early this morning and continued right on with round two.  Steven Paine made the big recovery for the Cougars with his second round 1-under 71.  Stephen Swanepoel continued his solid play with a 73 in the first round and an even-par 72 in round two.  Ben Kishigian bettered his opening round (75) by two shots with a 1-over 73 in the afternoon.  Justin Grice posted a pair of 76s, and Michael Hicks, after finishing round one with a 73, struggled in the second round with a 6-over 78.

Sunday's final round is scheduled for an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start at Lake Jovita Golf Club.
