CSU Golfers Struggle on Tuesday, Finish Ninth at Bobcat Invitational

Eatonton, Ga. -- After playing its best golf of the spring on Monday, Columbus State's men's golf team found the going much tougher on Tuesday, shooting a team round of 308 to finish ninth at the Bobcat Invitational. The tournament was played at Cuscowilla on Lake Oconee and hosted by Georgia College & State University.

Stephen Swanepoel and Steven Paine tied for the best rounds by CSU team members on Tuesday, each shooting rounds of 75. Swanepoel moved up three spots in the standings to finish tied for 29th, while Paine moved up six spots to finish tied for 41st. Ben Kishigian followed two rounds of 72 on Monday with a 79 on Tuesday, dropping from fourth to tied for 18th in the final standings. Justin Grice (79-226, T39) and Michael Hicks (82-231, T57) turned in the other two rounds for the Cougars on Tuesday.

Peter Tarver Jones of Belmont Abbey won medalist honors, despite a final-round 75. He finished three shots in front of Barry's Victor Billskoog and four shots ahead of Jude Eustaquio (Florida Southern), Patricio Salem (Lynn) and Joe Campbell (Belmont Abbey).

Lynn took home the team title, shooting a final-round 299 to edge Belmont Abbey by two shots. Florida Southern was third, West Florida fourth, and Lander fifth. GCSU, Valdosta State, Barry, CSU, and Nova Southeastern rounded out the top 10. 

CSU's next action will come on April 12-13 as they host the Peach Belt Conference Championship at Callaway Gardens.
