Columbus State Men's Golf Ranked 13th in Preseason Poll
New York, NY - After reaching the NCAA Championship for the 31st time in school history, the Columbus State men's golf team will open the 2011-2012 season ranked 13th in the nation in the Golf/World Nike Preseason Poll conducted by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
The Cougars finished 10th at the 2011 NCAA Championship after yet another fine season. CSU won the AFLAC/Cougar Invitational in the fall and finished inside the top-five in six other events including the South/Southeast Regional.
Coach Mark Immelman is returning for his 10th season at the helm of the CSU golf team. The Cougars will be a senior laden squad with five players returning for their final year at CSU. All-American Rourke Van der Spuy headlines the group along with Justin Grice and Steven Paine. Central Arkansas University transfer, Johan Swanepoel and freshman Jacob Tickal will be the only newcomers to the Cougars this season.
The Peach Belt Conference will be once again one of the toughest conferences in the country. Along with Columbus State, Georgia College (No. 14), USC Aiken (No. 18), Armstrong Atlantic (No. 19) and Flagler (No. 23) will all open the season inside the top-25.
Columbus State will open the 2011-2012 season in two weeks at The Sandestin Collegiate Championship at the Raven Golf Club in Sandestin, FL.
