Third-Seeded Cougars Advance with 5-0 Win over Lander at PBC Tennis Tournament

Jonesboro, GA - Columbus State got the 2009 Peach Belt Conference Tennis Championship off to a good start, defeating Lander 5-0. The third-seeded Cougars move to 16-4 on the season with the win, while #6 seed Lander falls to 8-8.

CSU got off on the right foot in the match, taking a 3-0 lead after the doubles matches. Frank Suarez and Diego Motivar closed out the win by swiftly taking care of business in singles. Suarez defeated Damien Cordesse 6-0, 6-1, while Motivar knocked off Juan Manrique 6-1, 6-2. The other singles matches were halted at that point as CSU had the required five wins to seal the victory.

The Cougars advance to face #2 seed Armstrong Atlantic State on Saturday at 3 PM. The Cougars and Pirates have met twice in 2009, with AASU winning 6-3 in Savannah in February, and then taking a 5-0 win on April 3 in the Blue-Gray tournament in Montgomery.
