CSU Tennis Teams Dominant in Shutout Wins at Georgia Southwestern Thursday
Americus, Ga. -- The Columbus State men's and
women's tennis teams each moved to 2-1 on the young season on
Thursday at Georgia Southwestern, taking 9-0 wins in both matches.
Both CSU teams are ranked #8 in the nation, according to the
Intercollegiate Tennis Association's preseason poll.
The CSU men got off to a great start in the doubles competition,
failing to surrender a single game in all three matches. In
singles, the closest match came at #3 where Gordan Divljak defeated
Ignacion Donnet 6-4, 6-1. The rest of the matches were won handily
by CSU players.
In the women's match, the Lady Cougar netters were even more
stingy, allowing the Hurricanes to win just six games in all of the
nine matches played. Interestingly, all six of the games won by GSW
came at #1 singles where Loriane Favoretto defeated Leady Cuellar
6-3, 6-3. Every other match was won at love for CSU.
Both CSU teams were scheduled to play Stillman on Saturday in
Columbus, but that match has been cancelled. The teams are
scheduled to face Tuskegee on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the Blackmon
Tennis Center in a make-up of an earlier match postponed by
weather.
