Cougars Set to Take on West Virginia Wesleyan at D-II Tennis Championship

Altamonte Springs, Fla. -- Columbus State will get its first appearance in the NCAA Division II Tennis Championship off and running on Wednesday as they tangle with West Virginia Wesleyan at 1:30 p.m.

West Virginia Wesleyan (22-2) is ranked 49th in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II rankings, while CSU (18-4) is ranked number 10.  The Bobcats, out of the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, won their portion of the Atlantic Regional as they defeated Charleston and Bloomsburg. WVWU is also making its first-ever appearance in the D-II Championship.

CSU got to the big dance by defeating Augusta State and Georgia College in last weekend's Southeast Regional. CSU found themselves down 2-1 after doubles on Saturday before winning four of five singles matches completed for a 5-3 win over GCSU.

The winner of Wednesday's match will face the winner of the Northwood (Mich.) and Western New Mexico match, which will be played at the same time on Wednesday. That quarterfinal match will take place on Thursday at 1 p.m. with the winner advancing to Friday's semifinal.
