Columbus State Men’s Tennis Commended By City of Columbus

COLUMBUS – The Columbus State University men's tennis team was honored by the city of Columbus Tuesday night at the weekly city council meeting at the Government Center.

The team was given a proclamation from Mayor Jim Wetherington and the city council recognizing their athletic achievements from the 2010 spring season.  The team advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Division II Tournament for the first time in school history.  The program set a school record with 20 wins on the year and finished ninth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Poll.  They also received the Team Sportsmanship Award from the Peach Belt Conference.

Individually, Frank Suarez garnered All-American status finishing the year ranked 20th in singles.  Suarez and doubles partner Christophe Noblet ended the year 11th in the ITA rankings.  Filip Cojbasic (1st team) and Diego Motivar (2nd team) were named to the Peach Belt Conference All-Academic Team while Cojbasic also took home ITA All-Academic Scholar-Athlete accolades.
