No. 9 Columbus State Takes Down Georgia Southwestern 8-1

Columbus – The ninth ranked Columbus State University men's tennis team continued early season play Wednesday afternoon as they defeated Georgia Southwestern 8-1 in a non-conference match-up. The match was played at the Mary V. Blackmon Tennis Center on the campus of CSU. 

The Cougars (2-0) got on the board quickly winning all three doubles matches. At number one doubles, Gordan Divljak and Quentin Rayniere shutout Joseph Bjerregaard and Yvan Ruelle 8-0. Danilo Sardelli and Martin Shishkov had no problem winning at second doubles defeating the GSW duo of Ryan Bartz and Stephen Moore 8-3. Third doubles was an entertaining match as the Cougar duo of Michael Trebuhov and Adi Malicbegovic edged past Matt Vansant and Valentin Demande 8-5. 

In singles play, No. 42 Shishkov won his first match of the season in style defeating Moore 6-0, 6-0. Divljak continued his good work early on in the year taking down Bjerregaard 6-2, 6-2. The Hurricanes (0-1) got their only victory at third singles as Ruelle defeated Rayniere in straight sets 6-1, 7-6. Freshman Oussama Zoghlami upped his season record to 2-0 after winning at fourth singles against Bartz 6-4, 6-2.

At fifth singles, Sardelli took down Demande with ease defeating him in straight sets 6-3, 6-0. Wrapping up play was Trebuhov who defeated Evgenily Vinogradov 6-2, 6-2. 

Columbus State will hit the court again on Saturday, February 11 taking on Fort Valley State at the Blackmon Tennis Center. The match will begin at 1:00 p.m.
