No. 1 Armstrong Bests No. 8 Columbus State 8-1

Columbus – The eighth-ranked Columbus State University men's tennis team took just one match from top-ranked Armstrong Atlantic State University as the Pirates defeated the Cougars 8-1. The Peach Belt Conference match took place at the Mary V. Blackmon Tennis Center on the campus of CSU.
Columbus State (16-2, 6-1) recorded their only victory in doubles action as the Pirates took two-of-three away from the Cougars. Mikk Irdoja and Georgi Rumenov, the top-ranked duo in the nation, defeated the sixth-ranked pair of Martin Shishkov and Olivier Simonet 8-2. At second doubles, Gordan Divljak and Quentin Rayniere upset 16th ranked Pedro Scocuglia and Sven Lalic in a tiebreaker winning the match 9-8. Eudaldo Bonet and Matus Mydla won the deciding match over Michael Trebuhov and Adi Malicbegovic 8-5.
In singles action, top-ranked Rumenov had no problem defeating 23rd ranked Simonet 6-3, 6-0 at first singles. Third-ranked Bonet and 48th ranked Divljak played a very entertaining match at second singles with the Pirate coming away with the victory 7-5, 6-1. Fifth-ranked Irdoja took down Rayniere 7-5, 6-1. At fourth doubles, 10th ranked Mydla defeated Shishkov 6-3, 6-3.
At fifth singles, 32nd ranked Lalic downed freshman Oussama Zoghlami 6-3, 6-1. In the final match of the afternoon, Daniel Regan defeated Danilo Sardelli 6-0, 6-3.
Columbus State will play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 7 taking on Florida Tech and conference foe Georgia Southwestern. Both matches will be played in Americus starting at 10:00 a.m.
