Columbus State University Cross Country Teams Announce 2010 Schedules
COLUMBUS - Columbus State University head coach J.D. Evilsizer has announced schedules for the men's and women's cross country teams for the upcoming 2010 season.
Both teams will compete at all the same venues featuring a home event and seven other meets, including the Peach Belt Conference, Southeast Regional and NCAA DII Championships.
"We hope this schedule will better prepare us for the competition we will encounter at the National Championship race," said Evilsizer.
The season gets underway at the Georgia Southwestern Invitational on Saturday, September 11 beginning at 9:00 a.m. The Cougars then head off to Tuscaloosa to participate in the 22nd annual Crimson Classic. It is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 17 and will feature a mostly Division I lineup.
CSU will have two more road trips competing in the Greater Louisville Classic, hosted by the University of Louisville on October 2 and the 2010 Royal Cross Country Challenge, hosted by Queens College on October 15. Then it is home for the Cougars as they host the Cougar Invitational on October 23. The Cougar teams won their Invitational last year in dominating fashion as the women had the top two finishers and all six of the runners finished in the top 10. Meshack Koyiaki set the men's course record for CSU with a time of 24:22, pacing five Cougar runners in the top 10.
From there, Columbus State will have a two week break before participating in the Peach Belt Conference Championship held in Augusta, GA on November 6. CSU will be looking to keep their hold atop the conference, winners of five straight women's cross country titles and four straight men's championships. Qualifying runners will be selected to compete in the NCAA DII Southeast Regional. The women's team won their first-ever regional title while the men placed second in 2009. Qualifying runners will then be chosen for the NCAA Championships.
