CSU Rifle Team Defeats Tennessee Tech in First Home Match
Ft. Benning, GA - Columbus State
hosted its first-ever home rifle match on Friday at the Army
Marksmanship Unit at Fort Benning and came away with a big win over
Tennessee Tech University. CSU won by a 4559 to 4489 count, taking
both the Small Bore and Air Rifle competitions. April Dunn and
Jonathan Hall paced CSU in the small-bore competition coming away
with scores of 572 and 567 overall. Tech's Austin Litherland was
its top shooter at 569. CSU trailed after the prone position, but
made up for the deficit with a strong showing in the standing and
kneeling positions to hold a 2239-2218 lead heading into the break
between sessions. Hall, Dunn, and Laura Milum had strong
performances for the Cougars in Air Rifle. Hall was outstanding,
shooting a near-perfect 99 in his last round of 10 shots to finish
with the top score of 591. Dunn turned in a 582 and Milum a 580.
Forrest Klein gave CSU its fourth counting score with a 567. Chase
Cortner's 568 and Patrick Stidham's 568 led the Tennessee Tech
effort. CSU returns to action on October 31, facing this same
Tennesee Tech team on its home range in Cookville, TN.
