CSU Rifle Team Wins Tri-Match at Jacksonville State over Weekend

Columbus, GA - Columbus State's rifle team continued its outstanding shooting over the weekend, winning a three-team match at Jacksonville State. The Cougars defeated host JSU and Tennessee Tech in the Saturday event.

CSU got off to a good start on the day, winning the smallbore competition with a score of 2248. Tennessee Tech was second with 2234 and Jax State was third at 2228. Brian Carstensen of the host Gamecocks was the top shooter overall in smallbore, with a total of 575 - one point ahead of CSU's Jonathan Hall. TTU's Austin Litherland and Curtis Gagne were next at 572 and 569, respectively, followed by CSU's Forrest Klein and April Dunn at 562. Courtney Duncan added a 550 for CSU.

The Cougars got another outstanding performance from Hall in the air rifle competition, as he posted a 591 total to pace the Cougars to a team score of 2319. JSU was second at 2309, followe by Tech at 2267. JSU's Monica Fyfe was second behind Hall with a 586, followed by CSU's Dunn at 581. JSU took fourth and fifth with Carstensen shooting a 580 and Kayla Allen a 578. Klein shot a 576 for CSU to finish just outside the top five. Duncan added a 573 and Laura Milum a 571 to round out the CSU team to place all five CSU shooters in the top 10.

The Cougars return to action on November 21, hosting the CSU Thanksgiving Classic at Fort Benning. That event will wrap up the 2009 portion of the team's first season of competition.
