CSU Rifle Team Wins Again in CSU Thanksgiving Classic

Columbus, Ga. -- Columbus State Rifle hosted the University of Memphis Tigers and the North Georgia Saints in last weekend's Thanksgiving Classic at the Army Marksmanship Unit on Fort Benning, preserving a five-match winning streak, the team's sixth triumph in eight contests.  The smallbore rifle portion of the event featured sixty shots: twenty shots each in prone, standing and kneeling positions, while the precision air rifle event featured sixty shots in the standing position.  Although falling short in the air rifle competition, CSU was able to rally in smallbore to win the overall match.

In air rifle Memphis took the lead with 2,315 points, while CSU followed with 2,310 and North Georgia trailed with 2,217. Memphis and CSU swapped positions in smallbore scores, the final tallies coming at 2,249 for CSU, 2,236 for Memphis and 2076 for North Georgia. Cougar Jonathan Hall was the high shooter in both divisions with 593 for AR and 576 for SB. The final scores were CSU 4,559, Memphis 4,551 and North Georgia 4,283.

CSU Rifle breaks for the rest of the year, hosting the CSU Open on January 16 and 17, 2010. North Georgia will return and Tennessee Martin will join in the three-team field.
