Three CSU Softball Players Earn Postseason Honors

Columbus, Ga. - A trio of Columbus State softball players have been tabbed for postseason honors in announcements made within the last week. Catcher Rocky Hemmer, an All-Peach Belt performer, has been named to two All-Southeast Region teams, while teammates Carrie Jones and Britni McCall were named to the PBC All-Academic softball team.

Hemmer, a native of Byron, Ga., was named a 2nd Team performer on both the Daktronics and National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Southeast Region teams. Hemmer, a junior, was a 1st Team All-PBC selection at catcher after hitting .340 (second on the team) with 10 doubles, three homers, and 22 RBI. She joins 13 other PBC players on both the NFCA and Daktronics teams.

The NFCA teams are nominated and selected by a panel of softball coaches from each region, while the Daktronics teams are nominated and selected by sports information directors at participating schools.

Jones, a junior third baseman, was named to the PBC First Team All-Academic squad after posting an outstanding 3.93 GPA while majoring in health science. Jones, a Shaw High graduate, batted .293 in the 2010 season with eight doubles, six homers, and 26 RBI.

McCall, a senior pitcher from Barnesville, earned Second Team All-Academic honors as she posted a 3.89 GPA. McCall is an exercise science major. In 2010, she posted a 7-9 pitching record and logged the second-most innings on the staff with 92.1.

To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution. The Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors oversee and select the teams.
