Columbus State Dominant in 14-4 Win over Lynn

COLUMBUS – Columbus State rebounded from its only loss of the 2011 season on Saturday, pounding out 14 hits and posting a 14-4 win over Lynn in the Hughston Sports Clinic Classic. The win moves CSU to 5-1 on the season heading into Sunday's final day in the event.

The Lady Cougars got things off to a great start against Lynn, posting a five-spot in the top of the first inning. Rocky Hemmer drove in Morgan Knight with a groundout, and Kori Waugh followed a batter later with a two-run single. Lauren Reader and Nina Rubio added RBI singles in the frame.

Columbus State extended the lead to 7-0 in the second inning with both runs coming courtesy the bat of Waugh again. This time the right-fielder ripped a double to wall in deep right scoring Kara Gordon and Branigan Wix. Waugh would finish the night 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and four runs batted in.

Lynn got on the board in the bottom of the second, scoring a run on Megan Mayfield's RBI single and getting another across on a CSU error to make it 7-2.

CSU responded right away, adding four runs to its tally in the top of third. With the bases loaded, Wix drew her third consecutive walk of the game, driving in a run for the first score of the inning. Gordon then added a sacrifice fly and Casey Googe delivered an RBI single to make it 10-2. The final run of the inning crossed as Wix came across on a wild pitch for an 11-2 lead.

CSU added a single run in the fourth on a Wix single to score Lauren Reader and then would push across two more in the fifth on RBI singles by Jen Isasi and Reader.

Lynn scored two runs on three hits in the fourth, both coming on a Katrina Lavadan double.
