Columbus – Brad Huskisson and the Columbus State University softball team announced the signing of two Buford High School student-athletes in the fall signing period. Kodi Ricketson and Madyson Wynegar signed National Letters of Intent to become Lady Cougars for the 2013 season.

"These two early signees bring a lot to our program, but the most important thing is that they are winners", stated Huskisson. "They have won four state championships together and I expect that attitude of winning to mesh well with our philosophy of trying to win every game."

Ricketson is a well balanced player that can play any position on the diamond. In her final two seasons at Buford, Ricketson was named an All-State and All-Region player and also selected as a Southeast Elite 80 player.

"The thing that I loved most about CSU was the family like atmosphere", said Ricketson. "Coach Huskisson has made great efforts to strengthen the softball program and I hope I can be a big part of the success in the future."

Ricketson has played summer ball for the East Cobb Bullets, GA Impact and the Atlanta Vipers.

"Kodi is a phenomenal hitter, stated Huskisson. "This year in the final day of the state tournament, she hit four or five homeruns which is really impressive."

Wynegar is a utility player that can challenge for playing time at the designated player spot immediately. She was named All-State in her sophomore season and All-Region in 2010 and 2011.

"I chose CSU because the girls and coaches are fighters, it was really evident in the fall game against Alabama", said Wynegar. "Coach Huskisson expected a lot out of his players, it doesn't matter if you are a senior or a freshman, he holds you accountable for your actions on and off the field."

"Madyson can absolutely swing that bat from the left side which we need," commented Huskisson. "She has an unbelievable work ethic and attitude for getting better."

The Columbus State softball team will begin practice when the spring semester starts on January 9. The first game of the season will be on February 10 as Huskisson and the Lady Cougars host the Hughston Sports Classic. CSU will face off against West Alabama and Lenoir-Rhyne on the first day of the season.
