Russell Named PBC Pitcher of the Week

Columbus – Mollie Russell was named the Peach Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week announced by the league office Tuesday afternoon.

Russell was untouchable in two starts last week, working 14 innings and allowing five total hits while striking out 28.  She began with a complete-game shutout of Nova Southeastern, allowing two hits and three walks with 15 strikeouts.  The right-hander then had another complete-game shutout win against West Florida, walking nobody and striking out 13 while tossing only 80 pitches.

Russell is currently second in the PBC with a 0.88 ERA and is third with 9.00 strikeouts per seven innings. Her earned run average is the sixth best nationally.  The Decatur native also ranks eighth in the nation allowing just four hits per seven innings.

Columbus State returns to the diamond this weekend when they partake in the Mid-South Classic in Spartanburg, SC.  They will play five games over the three-day tournament beginning with a single game versus Glenville State Friday night.  First pitch is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
