Columbus – Taylor Turner tossed six solid innings and Morgan Knight ripped a game-winning two-run double in the sixth inning to help give Columbus State a 3-1 victory versus Lander Saturday afternoon in a Peach Belt Conference matchup at Cougar Field.

With one out in the sixth, Kristen Gregory had a great at-bat fouling off numerous pitches before drawing a walk.  A sacrifice bunt moved her up to second which brought up pinch-hitter Kaycee Meeks.  With the count 1-1, Lander (17-18, 1-8) decided to intentionally walk the freshman and take their chances with Knight.  It was a bad choice as Knight laced a double over the head of the centerfielder driving in both runs.

The Lady Bearcats knotted the game at one-all in the top half of the frame as Brittney Sheriff singled to centerfield.  She advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt before Jaime Presnell tripled down the rightfield line plating the tying run.

CSU (24-11, 3-2) scored the game's first run in the fourth on a Branigan Wix seeing-eye single through the right side driving in Taylor Turner.  Turner began the rally with a two-out single through the left side.  Gregory then double to right-centerfield putting a pair in scoring position before Wix's single.

Columbus State had a chance to add to their lead in the fifth getting their first two runners on base via a single.  Instead of playing for an insurance run, CSU went for the big inning but came up empty as the next three batters all got out.|

For the game, CSU stranded nine runners on base.

Turner gave up just one run on three hits and walk a batter to improve to 6-2 on the year.  Mollie Russell worked the final inning to record her third save of the season.  Gregory was one of three Lady Cougars to pickup two hits in the game going 2-for-2 with a walk.  Knight and Turner had the other multi-hit performances.

Tyler Riendeau suffer her first loss of the season falling to 1-1 as she allowed three runs on eight this and three free passes.  Sheriff, Presnell and Chasity Davis had the lone hits for LU on the afternoon.
