Lady Cougars Look For a Victory Against West Georgia

After splitting a pair of games in the Nova Southeastern Tip-Off Classic last weekend, the Columbus State University women's basketball team will play their first game in the state of Georgia on Saturday as they will take West Georgia in Carrollton. The game is scheduled to begin at 8:00 p.m. which follows the men's game.
About the Lady Cougars
Columbus State played two formable opponents to begin the season. In the season opener, CSU defeated Barry 86-76. The Lady Cougars shot lights out going 36-for-65 from the field including shooting 62.9 percent (22-for-35) in the first half. Shan Basley stole the show as she scored a game high 27 points. In her first game as a Lady Cougar, the junior was 12-for-18 from the field. Letiecia Davenport also had a good CSU debut as she scored 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Lauren Matheney was the only other Lady Cougar to score in double-figures as she netted 11 points and collected seven boards. Asha Alexander brought down a team high 10 rebounds.
Columbus State could never find a rhythm against Nova Southeastern as they fell 78-69 to the Sharks. Three Lady Cougars scored more than 10 points led by Dominique Gilbert who scored 18. Gilbert also had 11 rebounds as she collected her first double-double this season. Alexander and Basley scored 13 and 12 points, respectively.
For the season, Basley is averaging 19.5 points per game which is the second highest mark in the Peach Belt Conference. Gilbert has also started the season strong averaging 12.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game. Davenport leads the team in rebounds per game averaging eight a contest which is the seventh best total in the PBC.
About the Wolves
West Georgia has only played one game this season as they defeated Montevallo 62-57 on Tuesday night in Montevallo. The Wolves trailed by five points with six minutes remaining but put together a late run to secure the victory. Senior Krystal Delph scored 15 points in the first half on her way to scoring a game high 19 points. Breonna Mosley and Shunice Hardy each scored 11. UWG was only 3-for-12 from beyond the arc and shot 38.2 (21-for-55) percent from the floor.
