Fala Suiaunoa is entering her second year at Columbus State University as Senior Woman Administrator (SWA) and assistant women's basketball coach. As SWA at Columbus State, Suiaunoa will be the primary point of contact and liaison for women's athletics among the department's 14 sports and oversee the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). As an assistant coach, she will be involved in all aspects of the program including on-court coaching, scouting opponents, video breakdown and recruiting.
Before arriving in Columbus, Suiaunoa worked two years as
assistant coach at Midwestern State University. She coached
four All-Conference players during her tenure with the
Mustangs. She also had a one-year stint as assistant coach at
Northeastern A&M College in Oklahoma.
Suiaunoa earned her B.S. in Health and Human
Performance and her M.Ed. in Teaching from
Northeastern State University. She was a standout player at NSU,
earning All-Lone Star Conference honors in 2003 as a senior and was
the team captain. The ’03 season was a banner year for NSU as
it captured it’s first-ever NCAA postseason berth and LSC
Championship.
The California native was an All-Orange Empire Conference player at
Irvine Valley College before transferring at NSU. There she
also served as the team captain and was selected IVC Defensive
Player of the Year honors her freshman season. Suiaunoa prepped at
University High School in Irvine, CA, being chosen as the Irvine
World News Player of the Year in 1999. She was a two-time
First Team All-Pacific Coast League honoree and team MVP.
A self-described "military brat," Suiaunoa spent most of her
growing up between Marine bases in Orange County, San Clemente, and
El Toro, California. She also spent two years living in Keflavik,
Iceland. She is the daughter of Tusi and Lokelani Suiaunoa and has
two brothers, one sister, and a stepbrother. She enjoys traveling
and sightseeing, shopping, and spending time with family and
friends. Suiaunoa is engaged to Dermayne Bullock.
