Lady Cougar Linksters Finish Fall Slate with 10th Place Showing in North Carolina
Salisbury, NC - Columbus State's young women's
golf team had another learning experience on Monday and Tuesday,
playing at the Patsy Rendleman Invitational hosted by Catawba
College. The Lady Cougar linksters finished 10th in the 11-team
field. Final Results
The team battled rainy, wet conditions on Monday to shoot 356.
Kimesha Anthony led the way with a 78, while Alex Schluter posted a
round of 88. On Tuesday, the team improved three shots to a 353,
led by Heather Altiser's 83. Anthony shot 84 for the second-best
team round of the day. Anthony tied for 25th overall with her two
day total of 162. Altiser (91-83) tied for 38th at 174, while
Schluter (88-96) came in 53rd. Ashley Garrett (99-90) was 57th, and
Leslie Hatcher (101-101) was 59th.
Newberry won the team title with a two-day total of 617, winning by
two shots over Belmont Abbey (619). Carson-Newman (631) was third,
followed by UNC Pembroke (636), Wingate (643), Queens (646),
Catawba (654), Lenoir-Rhyne (672), Anderson (676), CSU (709), and
St. Andrews Presbyterian (880).
Newberry's Josefine Mensner won medalist honors with rounds of
73-76. She held off Rita Kim of Belmont Abbey (75-76) by two
shots.
The event capped off the first-ever fall slate for CSU and the team
will now begin preparations for the spring segment of the schedule
which will get under way on February 6-7 at the Tusculum - Kiawah
Island Intercollegiate.
