After Review, Second Round Scores Count, CSU Finishes 11th at Falcon Invitational

Badin, NC -  After reviewing the United States Golf Association (USGA) Rule 33-2B/1, it has been determined that the final round of the 2009 Lady Falcon/McNairy Invitational will be counted.  Three sets of tees on holes #5, #8, and #11 were moved after the final round had begun and since the final round scores did not provide a distinct and significant advantag or disadvantage, the round can be counted.  Carson-Newman won the team event over Catawba by three shots.  CNC, trailing by five entering Tuesday's play, put up a second-day score of 307 at the Old North State Club at Uwharrie Point to finish on top.  California University of Pennsylvania shot a tournament best 305 on Tuesday to finish third overall.  CSU struggled on Tuesday with a 359 to finish 11th in the 14-team field.

Sarah Jane Sinard of Carson-Newman took home medalist honors with a two-day total of 145.  Sinard posted the best score at the tourney with a one-under 71 on Monday and a two-over 74 on Tuesday to finish at 145 (+1) for the tournament.  Maria Lopez of California University of Pennsylvania delivered an even-par 72 in the closing round to finish as runner-up at 148 (76-72).  Kelli Nakano of USC Beaufort placed third overall with a two-day total of 151 (74-77).  Newberry's Maria Luz Besio (80-72), Cal-PA's Dianne Luke (78-74), and Catawba's Elizabeth Smith (79-73) each tied for fourth at 152.

Kimesha Anthony shot her second straight 79 to finish tied for 12th at 158 (+14).  Heather Altiser made three birdies en route to a closing round 80 and finished tied for 32nd at 165 (85-80).  The rest of the line-up failed to break 100 at the Old North State Club course.  Alex Schluter finished tied for 56th at 188 (88-100).  Ashley Garrett tied for 59th at 191 (91-100).  Samantha Hamilton rounded out the squad with another 102 and finished in 65th position.

The CSU women's team finishes the fall slate with another trip to North Carolina for the Patsy Rendleman Invitational hosted by Catawba on October 12-13 at the Country Club of Salisbury in Salisbury, NC.
