Lady Cougars Improve on Sunday at Kiawah Island Event

Kiawah Island, S.C. -- Columbus State women's golf coach Brian Padgett knew his squad faced a tall order in their first spring event of 2010. For the first time, CSU would be taking on some of the top teams in the nation in Division II, and injuries had depleted his squad to just five healthy bodies.

The Cougar team improved its Saturday total by 28 shots on Sunday but still finished at the bottom of the 16-team event with a two-day total of 746. CSU shot a total of 387 on Saturday and improved to a 359 on Sunday to finish on a positive note. Kimesha Anthony improved from an 85 on Saturday in tough weather conditions to a 78 on Sunday to finish tied for 29th as the Cougars' top finisher.

Heather Altiser shot rounds of 92-85 to finish tied for 65th, while Samantha Hamilton (104-95) improved her round by nine shots on Sunday to finish 81st. Leslie Hatcher (106-101) was 83rd, and Alex Espana (117-117) was 84th.

Belmont Abbey's Melissa Siviter won medalist honors on scorecard regression as she finished tied with Daytona State's Mitsuki Katahira with rounds of 75-70. Daytona State won the team title with a two-day total of 602 (306-296).
