Lady Cougars Improve Score in Second Round at Hilton Head; Finish 15th

Hilton Head, S.C. -- The Columbus State women's golf team, along with the rest of the 16-team field at the Newberry College Invitational, fought cold temperatures, stiff breezes, and a difficult golf course in Tuesday's final round. CSU shot a final-round 385, a 12-stroke improvement from Monday's first round, to finish 15th in the 16-team field. Newberry won its own event after posting a team total of 331 on Tuesday to finish at 661 for the event.

Kimesha Anthony was solid for CSU, finishing tied for seventh after rounds of 83-84 to post a total of 167. Montevallo's Emily Gibson was the individual medalist in the event, shooting rounds of 78-79 to finish at 157 and hold off second-place Lisa Brandl of Newberry by four shots.

Heather Altiser (93-88-181) finished tied for 44th for CSU, while Leslie Hatcher (111-106-217) finished 73rd. Alex Espana (110-110) was 74th at 220, while Samanthan Hamilton (116-107) was 75th at 223.

Carson-Newman (670) was second in the event, followed by Armstrong Atlantic State (684), Catawba (687), and UNC Pembroke (690).

CSU does not return to the links until March 15-16 at the Berry College Invitational in Rome, Ga.
