Lady Cougar Golfers 11th after One Round at Berry Women's Invitational

Rome, Ga. -- On a cold, windy day in the north Georgia mountains, only five players managed to break 80 in the first round of the Berry College Women's Invitational. Columbus State shot a team total of 369, led by Kimesha Anthony's 81, and stand in 11th position in the 15-team field.

Anthony's round was good enough to tie for seventh in the individual standings, while teammate Heather Altiser managed a top-25 round with her 86 and is tied for 25th. Samantha Hamilton (100, 73rd), Leslie Hatcher (102, 76th) and Alex Espana (112, 80th) rounded out the CSU scoring on Monday.

Mobile's Meagan Rice shot the round of the day, firing a 73 in the blustery conditions and leads Shorter's Esther Gandarais and McKinzie Price of Cumberlands University by two shots. Jayne Curtis of Berry is fourth after a 76.

Shorter leads the team standings after shooting 318 in the first round. Cumberlands is second at 320, Erskine third at 331, Mobile fourth at 333, and Berry fifth at 335. West Georgia, Bethel, Lee, Trevecca, and Birmingham Southern round out the top 10. CSU, Young Harris, Millikin, King, and Martin Methodist round out the field.

The tournament concludes on Tuesday with an 18-hole final round.
