Lady Cougar Golfers Finish Sixth at West Georgia Invitational
Villa Rica, Ga. -- Columbus State's women's golf team improved by five shots as a team on Tuesday but could not move up the standings, finishing sixth at the West Georgia Invitational. Harding University overtook first round leader Montevallo and went on to post the team win in the event by one shot over host West Georgia.
CSU's Kimesha Anthony duplicated Monday's round of 82 and finished third in the individual standings. Montevallo's Emily Gibson, the first-round leader, shot a 76 on Tuesday to take medalist honors by eight shots over Harding's Whitney Olhausen. Anthony finished 14 shots off the pace in third.
Heather Altiser improved her score by 10 shots over Monday's round by posting a solid 84 on Tuesday. She jumped all the way up to a tie for 15th position. Alex Schluter followed Monday's 96 with a second-round 97 to finish in 26th position. Samantha Hamilton (103-107-210, 36) and Leslie Hatcher (118-116-234, 40) rounded out the CSU team on Tuesday.
Harding's round of 337 barely held off West Georgia's charge with a 332 on the day. Montevallo led after the first round, but faltered to shoot 358 on Tuesday and fell to third position. Northwood was fourth, followed by St. Francis, CSU, Mars Hill, and Young Harris.
CSU is now off until hosting the 2010 Peach Belt Conference Championship on April 12-13 at Callaway Gardens.
