Columbus State University Womens Soccer Ranked 12th In NSSCA Preseason Poll
COLUMBUS – The Columbus State University women's soccer team is ranked 12th in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Preseason Poll. It is the fifth straight season the Lady Cougars are ranked in the Top 25 heading into the season.
"It is nice that the NSCAA considers us a top 15 program in the country and we are very appreciative of the honor," said head women's soccer coach Jay Entlich. "However, we also realize that it is only a preseason ranking and it will mean nothing unless we have a successful season. We have eight great seniors who have put their hearts and souls into this program. They want to be a part of a team that makes history. Our goal is to do more than any other soccer team has done here at Columbus State."
Columbus State, which posted a 16-3-3 mark a year ago, is one of two Peach Belt Conference members to be listed in the poll along with Armstrong Atlantic who came in at #19. The Lady Cougars won their fifth straight PBC championship and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth consecutive season.
CSU went 2-1-2 last season against teams that are ranked in the preseason poll including a 0-0 tie against Grand Valley State University, the 2009 National Champion. GVSU comes into the year at the top spot.
The Lady Cougars, who return seven starters, began their
preseason training Wednesday morning with their fitness test,
followed by a practice session. The season gets underway
Friday, September 3 when they host Newberry College at 7:00 p.m. at
the Walden Soccer Complex.
