Four Lady Cougars Recognized by Peach Belt Conference

Columbus – The Peach Belt Conference announced their 2011 All-Academic Team which included four Columbus State student-athletes. Kayla Brown, Catherine Lovin, Stephanie Lowery and Mary Mancin were all selected to the All-Academic Team as voted on by the PBC Sports Information Directors.
Brown is an attacking defender who is a part of a backline that has posted 11 shutouts and allowed just 13 goals through 21 games this season. The sophomore was selected to the 2011 All-PBC First Team announced last week and was a NSCAA All-Southeast Region Second Team honoree in 2009. Brown has been a member of the PBC Honor Roll in each of her two seasons at Columbus State. She currently holds a 3.9 grade point average while majoring in communications.
Lovin is the team's defensive midfielder that controls the pace of the game and starts its offensive attacks. The Griffin native picked up her lone point of the year vs. North Georgia in PBC semifinals helping hand them their second loss of the season. Lovin has been selected to the Peach Belt Conference Honor Roll in her first two seasons. The junior boasts a 4.0 grade point average and is majoring in history.
Lowery is the team's leading scorer this season netting 10 goals and registering five assists. The 2010 All-American scored the game-winning goal in each of CSU's wins in the PBC Tournament. She was selected to the PBC First Team last week for the second consecutive season and currently sits third all-time in the CSU record book with 31 career goals. The Sandy Utah native has a 3.30 grade point average while majoring in exercise science. Lowery has also been named to the PBC Honor Roll in each of her two years as a Lady Cougar.
Mancin has started all 21 games in goal for CSU leading the conference in wins (15) and goals against average (0.59). The junior has been a part of 11 shutouts on the season including six versus PBC opponents. Her season best scoreless streak is over 522 minutes long. She has been selected to the PBC Honor Roll in her first two seasons in Columbus. Mancin currently has a 3.36 grade point average while studying exercise science.
To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution.
