Lady Cougar Netters Defeat Brenau 8-1

Columbus, Ga. -- Eighth-ranked Columbus State continued its winning ways on Wednesday at the Blackmon Tennis Center as the Lady Cougars downed Brenau College 8-1. CSU moves to 4-1 with Wednesday's win.

In doubles on Wednesday, CSU had to fight through tough matches at numbers one and three. At number one, Tracy Castillo and Caterina Kiefer defeated Lyn See Choo and Kate Mazackova 8-6. At number three, Lucy Bird and Loriane Favoretto defeated Eline Nagels and Hannah Thompson 9-7. Gabriela Vasilescu and Sofia Persson defeated Jolene Wong and Liubov Orlova 8-2 at the number two position.

In singles, CSU took five of the six matches with all five being decided in straight sets. Favoretto defeated Choo 6-2, 6-4 at number one, followed by Castillo's 6-3, 6-2 win over Mazackova at number two. Persson defeated Wong 6-2, 6-1 at number three, while Kiefer defeated Thompson 6-2, 6-2 at number four. At number five Andrea Redrado won 6-0, 6-2 over Orlova. CSU's Bird fell 4-6, 2-6 to Nagels at number six.

CSU hosts Fort Valley State at 2 p.m. on Friday and then faces a showdown with #10 Clayton State on Saturday at 12 p.m. at the Blackmon Tennis Center.
