Favoretto Named PBC Women's Tennis Player of the Week
Columbus, Ga. -- Columbus State junior tennis player Loriane Favoretto has been named Peach Belt Conference women's tennis Player of the Week for the week ending February 21. The announcement was made by the league office in Augusta on Tuesday afternoon.
Favoretto went 4-0 in singles last week, including wins over two ranked opponents. She took wins over #25 (NAIA) Lyn See Choo of Brenau (6-2, 6-4), Roberta Robinson of Fort Valley State (6-0, 6-1), #17 Katie White of Clayton State (6-4, 6-3), and Kristi Kelly of Montevallo (6-0, 1-0 ret.). In doubles action she and partner Lucy Bird earned wins over Brenau (9-7) to start the week and Montevallo (8-1) to end it. She partnered with Tracy Castillo for a 8-1 win over Fort Valley, and then she and Castillo defeated the #7-ranked team of Viktorya Semyrodenko and Katie White of Clayton State 8-6. She is currently 7-1 in singles on the season and 6-1 in doubles, with the only losses coming against Division I Samford in the season opener.
Favoretto and the 8th-ranked CSU women return to action on Thursday at West Florida in Pensacola and then host top-ranked and defending national champion Armstrong Atlantic State on Saturday at the Blackmon Tennis Center.
