#8 CSU Women Earn Tough 5-4 Win at #7 West Florida on Thursday
Pensacola, Fla. -- In a battle of Division II
top 10 women's tennis teams on Thursday, Columbus State's women
came away with a 5-4 win win over #7 West Florida on the Argonauts'
home courts.
CSU won two of the three doubles points as each match was tight.
The teams of Caterina Kiefer and Tracy Castillo and Gabriela
Vasilescu and Sofia Persson each took very close 9-8 wins.
In singles, Loriane Favoretto lost a very tough match to #33
Paulina Ojeda in three sets. Ojeda won the first set 7-6, with
Favoretto coming back to take the second set 6-1. The final super
set was won 10-7 by Ojeda. CSU got a win from Castillo at #2 and
then clinched the match with wins by Kiefer at number five and
Vasilescu at number six.
The win is the eighth in a row for CSU and sets up Saturday's
showdown with top-ranked and defending national champion Armstrong
Atlantic State at the Blackmon Tennis Center. The match is set for
2 p.m.
