#5 CSU Women Down Lander 9-0, Sew Up #2 Seed for PBC Tournament
GREENWOOD - The No. 5-ranked Columbus State women's tennis team
defeated No. 32 Lander, 9-0, Saturday afternoon in a Peach Belt
Conference match at The Joe Cabri Courts.
CSU improves to 17-4 overall and 11-1 in the PBC, while Lander
falls to 11-8, 5-6. The Lady Cougars clinched the #2 seed in the
upcoming PBC Tournament with the win.
In singles, No. 1 Loriane Favoretto (C) def. Aurelia Ruffat (L),
6-4, 6-3; No. 2 Tracy Castillo (C) def. Brandi Cordell (L), 6-4,
6-1; No. 3 Sofia Persson (C) def. Caitlin Fell (L), 6-0, 6-1; No.
4. Gabriela Vasilescu (C) def. Eliza Adusumilli (L), 6-2, 6-3; No.
5 Andrea Redrado (C) def. Nicola James (L), 7-5, 6-2; and No. 6
Lucy Bird (C) def. Melanise Newbold (L), 6-3, 4-6 (10-3).
In doubles, No. 1 Favoretto/Toumi (C) def. Cordell/Ruffat (L), 8-4;
No. 2 Vasilescu/Persson (C) def. Adusumilli/Zaia (L), 8-0; and No.
3 Castillo/Bird (C) def. Fell/James (L), 8-2.
