CSU Women Selected for NCAA Southeast Tennis Regional

Columbus, Ga. -- The Columbus State women's tennis team learned of its inclusion in the 2010 NCAA Division II Tennis Championship field on Wednesday night, earning a bid to participate in the Southeast-2 Regional competition. Clayton State will serve as host of the event for this portion of the Southeast Region, while Armstrong Atlantic State will serve as host for the Southeast-1 Regional.

The Lady Cougars, making the program's ninth consecutive appearance in the NCAA postseason tournament, hold a season record of 18-5 and will face off against familiar PBC foe Augusta State (11-7) on Friday, May 7, in Morrow at Clayton State's Laker Courts. CSU last played Augusta State on March 28 and won that match 9-0 in a regular-season PBC contest.

CSU last played on April 17 when they fell to Clayton State 5-4 in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament semifinals. Clayton State then fell to Armstrong Atlantic State in the championship match. This season CSU went 1-1 against the Lakers, winning 8-1 in the regular season and then falling in the PBC semifinal.

The Southeast-2 competition will get underway on Thursday, May 6, as Georgia College (10-10) will face Lincoln Memorial (16-3) for the right to take on host Clayton State on Friday. The Lakers hold a season mark of 16-7.

The championship match for the Southeast-2 will take place on Saturday with the winner advancing to the Division II Women's Tennis Championship on May 12-15 in Altamonte Springs, Fla.
