Tanui Posts First Meet Win as Lady Cougars Dominate Cougar Invitational


Columbus, GA - Columbus State got a 1-2 finish from Naomi Tanui and Brittney Skiles and put all six of its runners in the top 10 to post a dominating win in the Cougar Invitaional on Saturday at the Smiths Station Sports Complex. CSU had a perfect 15 team points to win easily.

Tanui bounced back from a mishap at the team's last meet in Macon to win going away. Tanui posted a time of 18:33 to out-distance teammate Brittney Skiles by 20 seconds (18:53). Freshman Kelli Arnold was third at 19:50, followed by Darton College's Bri Badie at 20:05. Badie's score did not count in the team scoring as she was the only Darton representative in the field. Tiara Brown posted the fourth score for CSU, coming in at 20:15. Moneka English was seventh overall and posted the fifth score for CSU at 20:40. Hope Ard finished just outside the scoring range for CSU, coming in eighth overall at 22:59.

In the team standings, Georgia Southwestern finished second behind CSU with 47 points and was led by Juwanna Stringer in 10th overall and seventh in the scoring at 23:12. Southern Union was third at 71. Runners also represented Andrew College and Brewton Parker College, along with several unattached runners.

CSU now turns its attention to the Peach Belt Conference Championships on October 24 in Pembroke, NC. CSU will be looking to add to its streak of four consecutive women's PBC titles.
